Course Description (Third Year)
MEDICINE II (Diagnosis and Management of Common Medical Conditions)
This course consists of the different diseases, their etiology, pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, methods of diagnosis, complications and treatment. It emphasizes history taking, correlation and differential diagnoses to arrive to a correct one with appropriate management.
SURGERY II (Survey of the Specific Organ System)
This course consists of the definition, cause, clinical manifestations, complications and treatment of the disease that affects the different parts, organs and systems of the human body. New discoveries in surgery are introduced to the students.
GYNECOLOGY
This subject includes study of diseases of the female genital system, their clinical manifestations, complications and treatment.
PEDIATRICS II (Common Diseases in Infants and Children)
This course covers the common diseases in infancy and childhood specific to organ systems. Diseases of the newborn, fluids and electrolytes, hyaline membrane disease, digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, renal and other related diseases are discussed. Emphasis is placed on history taking, physical examinations and the approach to diagnosis with demonstrations of common pediatric procedures and therapies.
OBSTETRICS
This course deals with the principles and mechanisms of the following topics: Gametogenesis, Fertilization, Implantation, Maternal Physiology during Pregnancy, Intrauterine Fetal Development and Welfare, Physiology of Labor, Delivery and Puerperium, Care of the Newborn and Control of Reproduction.
PREVENTIVE MEDICINE AND COMMUNITY HEALTH III (Health Services and Research)
This course deals with the concepts and principles of primary health care and the basic health services provided by the Department of Health. Scientific investigation is undertaken on problems or issues of public health importance.
SURGICAL PATHOLOGY
This subject deals with the application of modern pathologic procedures, methodologies and interpretation, to serve a s a guide in conditions requiring surgical, obstetrical and allied managements.
RADIOLOGY
This course deals with the basic principles in diagnostic radiology, therapy, isotopes, scanning and ultrasonography.
PSYCHIATRY III (Clinical Psychiatry)
This course deals with various clinical syndromes, mental retardation, acute and chronic brain syndromes, personality disorders, psychophysiology of the autonomic nervous system, neurosis and functional psychosis. Various methods of management and therapy are discussed including their actual application.
OPHTHALMOLOGY
This involves the study of the eyes, orbits, ocular adnexa and the neuromuscular and vascular supply of both, in health and disease.
OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY (ENT)
In this course, emphasis is placed on the teaching of anatomy, physiology and pathology of the ears, nose and throat, including management of disease affecting these organs.
NEUROLOGY
This course deals with common neurological disorders particularly infections, cerebrovascular disorders, neoplastic conditions and seizure disorders. Rational approach in the localization, diagnosis and management of neurological conditions are emphasized.
LEGAL MEDICINE AND MEDICAL JURISPRUDENCE
The course deals with the study and application of medical knowledge to elucidate legal problems for the purpose of proper administration of justice. It further deals with the control, supervision and regulation of the medical education, and most important of all, the practice of Medicine.
EMERGENCY MEDICINE
This course deals with different emergency situations, the diagnosis and management of acute emergencies including immediate care of patients.
DERMATOLOGY
This course deals with the different types of skin disorders with emphasis on the types prevalent in the Philippines. The clinical manifestations, differential diagnoses and management are included.
CHRISTIAN PHYSICIAN III (Special Bioethics)
It studies the basic principles concerning the End-of-Life and the Preservation-of-Life issues. Furthermore, it discusses the importance of the Bioethics Committees, Human Experimentation and Research and other related issues.
CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY AND THERAPEUTICS
This course deals with the study of rational drug use (RDU) therapy in adult and pediatric patients, integrating and applying the knowledge of basic pharmacology. The WHO-criteria for rational use of drug is strictly followed in drug therapy discussion. A correct prescription form is in order after proper selection of the best appropriate drug for the clinical case studied.
